Peru Balsam Essential Oil has also been used as a fixative and fragrant component in lotions, detergents, soaps as well as other body care products (including skin creams and diaper rash balms) while its traditional use includes dry and chapped skin, respiratory complaints (coughs due to bronchitis, colds, and flu), and stress.
You can apply Peru Balsam externally to skin infections, wounds (infected and poorly healing), burns, hemorrhoids plus in the treatment of eczema, frostbite, ulcers (leg and decubitus), scabies, and itching.
SUGGESTED USAGE
You can add 3 drops of Peru Balsam Essential Oil to a tissue and inhale (just make sure that your nose doesn't touch the tissue) or combine 4 drops of Peru Balsam Essential Oil to 32 ounces of hot water, cover your head with a towel and inhale the aromatic steam for ten minutes (however, do not cover your head with a towel if you're asthmatic).
If you are going to use this oil for a body oil or massage oil, always dilute this and any essential oils with a carrier oil so that your skin is protected from any irritating reactions with this dilution recipe: 1drop essential oil in 2 milliliters of carrier oil. Add 4 to 6 drops of Peru Balsam Essential Oil in a full bathtub of warm water (make sure to agitate the bath water before you take a bath.
Keep this and any essential oils out of the reach of children. Always consult with a health practitioner if you are pregnant, nursing, or have any medical conditions before using this essential oil since Peru Balsam Essential Oil can cause contact allergies and some serious complaints if this essential oil; kidney damage may occur if this essential oil is extensively used either internally or externally.

A tall tree that is native to the forests of South America (especially Peru), the Peru Balsam tree is also indigenous to Panama, Ceylon, Jamaica, and Mexico. Besides growing wild in the tropical forests, this tree is cultivated in Central America, South America, India, Ceylon, and West Africa.
The Balsam part of this essential oil is actually the thick, aromatic reddish-brown resin that oozes out of the bark of damaged Peru Balsam tree trunks. Bearing this almost intoxicating vanilla-like, extremely sweet scent, Peru Balsam was used as part of an anointing oil in Christianity when it is mixed with Olive Oil and its sap was so highly prized by the Spanish clergy that papal bulls of 1562 and 1571 forbade the destruction of these magnificent trees.
Over the years, it has been used to flavor foods, soft drinks, and chewing gum. Since the time of the Incan Empire, the Peruvians were known to use Balsam to relieve fevers, colds, bronchitis, coughs, inflammations (mouth and pharynx), and any inclinations towards infections while the ancient Aztecs made compresses with the tree's mashed leaves to speed the healing of wounds.
