Clinical trials and safety studies have been completed, but have not been submitted for publication. Since DGP itself is new, and many of its natural constituents may not be known to pet owners or veterinarians, here is list of ingredients and relevant research.
 Feverfew - tanacetum parthenium is a relative of the common daisy, found originally in Europe and spread throughout the world by deliberate planting. It's been widely used in herbal medicine since the time of the ancient Greeks to calm hysteria, control inflammation and reduce pain, particularly migraine headaches. Modern research confirms that Tanacetum parthenium is a serotonin antagonist, which account for its calming effects, suppresses leukotriene release by basophils, mast cells, macrophages and lung tissue that participate in allergic reaction, and lowers the production of thromboxanes by patelets which inhibits vascular and bronchial smooth muscle contractions and platelet aggregation.
Research has shown it to be non-toxic, but because of its effect on platelet aggregation, which can increse blood clotting time, caution should be used when combining it with anti-clotting drugs.
 Celery Seed - Apium graveolenes, grown throughout the world, is used widely in herbal medicine and foods, and is listed by the FDA as GRAS. In herbal medicine it is used for rheumatism, arthritis, gout, fluid retention, and to calm digestion and stimulate digestion appetite. Medical and scientific research confirm the safety of Apium graveolens and show it provides potent anti-flammatory effects, reduces uric acid in the blood and aids liver function by protecting liver cells from chemical toxins and lowering cholesterol.
 Boswellia Serrata, also known as Frankicense, has long been used in European and Indian herbal medicine as an anti-inflammatory and analgesic. Recent research shows benefits in osteo and rheumatoid arthritis, asthma and ulcerative colitis. Studies are underway for its use in the treatment of gliomas and other cancers. It has been shown to block the production of pro-inflammatory leukotrienes, but unlike other NSAIDs, it does not disrupt glycosaminoglycan synthesis which can accelerate damage to cartilage. Research shows that it is non-toxic and no adverse events have been reported.
 Bromelain is a mixture of protein-digesting enzymes made from the stem of the pineapple, Ananas comosus, and is listed by the FDA as GRAS. It is used for digestive disorders and a wide range of conditions associated with inflammation caused by infection or injury. Animal and human research show that it modulates inflammation by preventing the build up of bradykinins and kallidins that cause swelling and helps speed up wound healing related to surgery or trauma.
Toxicity studies show that it is safe, but it has been shown to enhance absorption of antibiotics and anticoalulants and should be used with caution combined with these medications.
 Papain is a protein digesting enzyme derived from the milky sap of unripe papaya, Carica papaya. It is cultivated in Australia and tropical region throughout the world and used in cooking as a meat tenderizer and an herbal treatment to aid digestion, combat intestinal parasites. Research shows that it is non-toxic and it is listed by the FDA as GRAS.
 Corydalis Root, Corydalis turtschaninovii, is an herb that originated in China and is cultivated throughout the Pacific Rim. It is used in traditional medicince as a tonic for the circulatory system, and for its pain relieving and calming effects. Scientist have isolated a number of active ingredients that show a wide range of actions on the nervous system. In human research, a double-blind study showed that heart arrhythmia patients exhibited significant improvement.
Other studies showed improvement in sleep in insomnia patients without sedative like side effects, and showed it was effective reducing nerve pain, and pain from dysmeorrheal and headache. Toxicity studies show that it is an exceptionally safe herb, no adverse events have been reported, and no herb-drug interactions are suspected.
 Cayenne, Capsicum frutescens, is red-pepper used commonly in many of the world's culinary and medicinal traditions and is listed by the FDA as GRAS. Studies of traditional use in ethnic groups around the world show associated benefits in terms of the gastrointestinal health, thermoregulation and nutritional uptake. Analysis of its constituents, reveal many active dietary phytochemicals that exhibit potent anti-viral, antibacterial, anti-mutagenic and anti-carcinogenic effects.
Human studies show that oral use decreased appetite and subsequent protein and fat intake, and stimulated carbohydrate metabolism at rest or during exercise. All adverse events relate to external use in pepper spray and accidental over exposure to the skin, none due to ingestion, and not herb-drug interactions.
 Wheatgrass, Triticum aestivum, is common wheat harvested in the sprouting stage at seven days of growth. It is a concentrated food source, rich in cholophyll, amylase, lipase, superoxide dismutase and other enzymes, iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium and more than 80 minerals, 18 amino acids, beta carotene and many vitamins. It has been widely used since the 1930's when U.S. research showed that it was benefial as a dietary supplement for animals. There have been no reports of side-effects or interference with any drugs, and not contraindications.
 Tumeric, Curcuma longa L, native of India and grown throughout the Pacific, has long been used as a spice and medicinal herb as a digestive aid, for fever, infection dysentery, arthritis, jaundice, liver and gall bladder problems. In terms of modern research, there are more than 100 published peer-review studies on this herb, establishing tumeric's hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, anti-carcinogenic, and antimicrobial properties, and its use in cardiovascular disease, gastrointestinal disorders and to speed wound healing.
Many of these benefits are attributed to its anti-inflammatory activity resulting form the down regulation of COX-2 enzymes and the cytokines TNF and IL-1, and its antioxidant activity that supports higher activity of the enzymes superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathinone peroxidase, demonstrated to protect hemogoblin from oxidation and inhibit lipid perioxidation. These mechanisms have also demostrated nemetocidal anti-protozoal, anti-bacterial activity, anti-viral and anti-tumor activity. It is listed by the FDA as GRAS.
Shark cartilage is the skeletal material of shark and has been consumed as a health food in traditional Chinese medicine for its broad anti-aging benefits. Recent scientific studies have confirmed it benefits for the treatment and prevention of degenerative joint disease. It is an excellent dietary source of chondroitin sulfate and other glycoaminoglycans that rebuild cartilage, and calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc and other bone building minerals.
No sharks are caught in the manufacture of this product, the sharks used are harvested for sale as seafood, the cartilage is a by-product. Toxicity studies have shown it to be safe and non-toxic at all but extremely high doses.

 "In 30 years fo veterinary practice I've never seen anything as effective as DGP. As joint injury and inflammation limit mobility and pain leads to crankiness and other personality changes, dogs tend to withdraw from family life. Drugs are short term fixes, because long term use leads to side effects and most natural products don't work fast or completely enough. But every dog I've put on DGP has shown results, usally in a week or less, and research shows its safe for long term use.
Dogs that used to have to be lifted to their feet are running around like juveniles on DGP, and dogs that snap or bite unexpectedly because of pain act more sociably and safely. It does more than reduce pain and inflammation, it appears to rejuvenate older dogs. DGP is a great product that works consistently and safely every time."

DGP is great. As soon as Kya(my dog) started taking it, she was much happier and and had a lot more energy. My do g has had 3 ACL surgeries so she has some arthritis in both legs. The DGP has helped tremendously. A couple of months ago, I ran out of DGP and she started limping on her right leg. I thought something was wrong with her leg so I took her to her orthopedic surgeon. He checked her legs and said nothing was wrong internally. I told him I had been giving her the DGP and had run out of it and he suggested I reorder more. I did, and she's been fine ever since. I highly recommend this product.

FAQ
1. How is DGP different from glucosamine and chondroitin?
DGP works much faster than glucosamine & chondroitin with regard to pain relief and improvement in mobility. Most people report noticeable results with DGP in just one week; glucosamine & chondroitin products can take up to 3 to 6 months.
DGP is a more complete formula ?in fact DGP revitalizes dogs. Not only does it help with a pet’s mobility problems it also has ingredients that support the nervous system, gastrointestinal, skeletal and immune health. Glucosamine and chondroitin products do not!
2. Why is DGP more expensive than other joint formulas?
Glucosamine and chondroitin is no longer a “specialized?product and with the raw materials readily available it has become very cheap.
However , each of the ingredients in the DGPis specialized. Each DGP ingredient is human grade and is farmed specifically for DGP with an explicit purpose (i.e. anti-inflammatory, pain relief, gastrointestinal health, etc). And, DGP is produced in a TGA approved pharmaceutical grade manufacturing facility. (TGA ?Theraputic Goods Association ?is the Australian counterpart to the FDA.)

3. What is the DGP dosage?
Recommended daily dosage is one tablet for every 30 lbs of body weight. The chewable tablets should be spread out during the day (AM and PM). For pets 15 lbs and under the dosage is ?a tablet a day.
4. How quickly will I see results with the DGP?
DGP is very fast acting . Most people report they see significant results in one to two weeks. This is much quicker than other nutritional supplements.
5. Do I need to keep my pet on the DGP indefinitely?
If your pet has a chronic mobility problem then the DGP should and can be used long-term. DGP is very safe and has been administered in long-term use with no adverse effects.
6. If I stop giving the DGP, how quickly do the effects wear off?
Typically, the symptoms return within 5 to 7 days once the DGP is discontinued.
7. How does DGP differ from the NSAIDs?
DGP is all natural and extremely safe with no reported averse side effects, either in clinical testing or in real world use in the thousands of dogs that take the DGP.
On the other hand, NSAIDs (ie. Rimadyl, Metacam, Deramaxx, etc) can have significant side effects ranging from gastrointestinal problems, vomiting, and diarrhea to kidney and/or liver damage.
8. Can I give DGP and NSAIDs at the same time?
We do not recommend giving your pet both. However, the NSAID should not be stopped abruptly especially if the dog has been taking it on a regular basis. We suggest the dog be weaned off the NSAID while properly dosing with the DGP. The “weaning?process involves reducing the dosage of the NSAID by ?every other day (while dosing with the DGP) and the pet should be completely off the NSAID in a week or less.
9. Can cats take DGP?
DGP is also appropriate for cats. The suggested dosage is the same.
10. What is the "proprietary blend of native Australian herbs"?
Legally the actual herbs in the “blend?cannot be divulged (since it is proprietary) but be assured they are well researched and often used herbs that add to the overall health benefits of DGP. The “blend?works to help aid digestion, ease joint stiffness, stimulate the immune system and contain anitmicrobial and antifungal properties.
11. My pet is allergic to wheat, is wheatgrass the same?
Wheatgrass is not a problem for pets with allergies to wheat. Wheatgrass is harvested before the wheat allergen is formed.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: If your dog is already on medication, discuss DGP with your vet before using. The enzymes it contains have the potential for altering the rate of absorption of medications, such as antibiotics, anticoagulants, and NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs). Also, several of the ingredients have anti-inflammatory properties that could possibly enhance the blood thinning properties of anticoagulant drugs.

Throughout my 30 years of veterinary practice in Australia, one of the most common conditions I've seen in dogs and horses suffering from arthritis.
This isn't surprising considering that dog racing and thoroughbred horse racing are huge industries here, and the joints of these animals take a pounding. In Australia, 20% of all jobs are linked to the horse industry, making it the third largest industry.
And Australia (where 68% of households have a dog) also use dogs for mustering cattle and sheep. These working dogs often develop joint problems and suffer injuries that lead to arthritis, even at young ages. But arthritis is not just a problem for dogs in Australia.
In America, it is estimated that 25-30% of all dog-as many as 15 million-will suffer agonizing and crippling pain of arthritis during their lifetimes. Large breeds are particularly susceptible but dogs of any breed, age, or size can develop arthritis. The effects of arthritis are devastating to a dog. There is a slow and steady breakdown of the dog's cartilage (a spongy substance on the ends of the bones that form in the joints). This cartilage is the cushion in the dog's elbow, hip, knee, ankle, and shoulder joints that gives the dogs the mobility to run, jum, and play. As this cartilage begings to wash away, there is nothing left to keep the bones from rubbing and grinding against each other, causing excruciating pain.
What Are Some Of The Major Changes A Dog With Arthritis Goes Through?
Dogs in the early stages of arthritis will often show signs of stiffness when they walk or get up. The pain may be mild and movement in the joints may be reduced by about 20%. As the disease progresses, a dog may lose as much as 50% or more of its range of movement in its joints. Due to severe pain, they will do almost anything to avoid moving. And the less they move, the more chance there is for obesity.
This puts even more pressure on painful arthritic joints and lack of movement can weaken the muscles that surrond the joint. In addition to physical changes, dogs go through a wide range of behavior changes. They may begin to withdraw from the family, hiding in a corner or some out the way place. Dogs with hip dysplasia, an inherited form of arthritis, may become constipated because they find it too painful to even squat down. Some dogs may soil the carpet rather than get up and ask to go outside. A dog may also exhibit signs of depression and seem sluggish.
They lose interest in going for a walk, jumping in the car, or running after a ball. Other dogs will cry, groan, or whimper when they move. But one the more frightening changes for a dog owner is when they notice their dog becoming more aggressive. Snapping or even biting may become a problem simply because the intense pain is making the dog ornery. Dogs that were once friendly will not want to be touched by anyone - including family members they know, trust, and love.
Nothing Is As Effective As This
